Point Cloud to Revit Model | Commercial Building | Birmingham

Project Scope

The client required an accurate existing-condition Revit model of a commercial building to support ongoing construction activities at RIBA Stage 5. Using registered point cloud data, our modelling team developed a coordinated 3D Revit model representing the as-built condition of the property, including architectural, structural and visible MEP elements.

Deliverables

  • Existing Condition Revit Model
  • Architectural BIM Model
  • Structural Building Elements
  • Visible MEP Components
  • Coordinated 3D Revit Environment
  • RIBA Stage 5 Project Support

Duration

  • Survey Data Capture: 3 days
  • Revit Modelling & QA: 45 days

1. Architectural & Structural Modelling

The model was developed from registered point cloud data, capturing key architectural and structural elements including walls, glazing systems, columns, beams, floors, roof geometry and visible structural components.

2. Visible MEP Modelling

Visible MEP components including ducting, piping, cable trays, and equipment were modelled where identifiable within the scan data. Particular attention was given to externally visible services at the rear of the building.

3. Modelling Approach

A detailed review of the point cloud data informed a selective and efficient modelling strategy. The focus was on accurately capturing visible building elements while maintaining a practical level of detail suitable for design, coordination and construction workflows.
