Residential Scan-to-BIM Model | Liverpool

Project Scope

The client required a detailed LOD 300 Revit model of an existing residential property to support planned renovation works. Using registered point cloud data, our modelling team developed a complete digital representation of the building, including architectural features, structural elements, loft spaces, curved stairs and external detailing. Particular attention was given to complex geometry and maintaining model accuracy throughout the project.

Deliverables

  • LOD 300 Existing Condition Revit Model
  • Floor Plans
  • Roof Plan
  • Site Plan
  • Building Elevations
  • Sections
  • Architectural Modelling Outputs
  • Renovation Planning Support Deliverables

Duration

  • Point Cloud Capture: 3 days
  • Revit Modelling and QA: 45 days

1. Modeling Workflow

The workflow involved utilizing sections, 3D views, and plans together to maintain accuracy. Exterior detailing on walls, interior wall sweeps, stairs, and railings were the most time-consuming elements. Accuracy was verified against the point cloud by checking in both sections and 3D views.

2. Key Modelling Challenges

Achieved accuracy levels within approximately 10mm against the point cloud. Successfully modelled complex curved stairs and adjusted railing heights. Delivered high-detail modelling of exterior wall niches, voids, and sweeps.

3. Architectural Modelling Features

The structure was quite fresh and well maintained, located in a peaceful fields area. The loft coverage and exterior detailing added unique aspects to the project.

4. Accuracy & Quality Assurance

The completed Revit model was checked against the point cloud data using plans, sections and 3D views, achieving accuracy within approximately 10mm throughout the project.
